Arctic Army Size Guide
About Arctic Army Sizing
Arctic Army specialises in military-grade tactical clothing and footwear designed for demanding environments and professional users. Our sizing follows NATO standardisation protocols, ensuring compatibility with military specifications whilst maintaining comfort for layering and tactical operations. Arctic Army clothing is engineered for durability, functionality, and reliable performance in challenging conditions. Whether you're selecting combat uniforms, tactical gear, or professional footwear, our sizing accommodates the need for additional layers and freedom of movement essential to military and outdoor operations.
This guide uses both NATO metric sizing and standard imperial conversions to help you find your perfect fit across our range of military-specification apparel, footwear, headwear, and accessories.
How to Measure
To ensure accurate sizing, follow these steps carefully. Take all measurements whilst wearing minimal clothing, and have someone assist you for the most precise results.
- Chest Measurement: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape measure parallel to the ground and snug but not tight. For military clothing that accommodates layering, this should be measured over a base layer or thin shirt.
- Waist Measurement: Measure around your natural waist, typically at the level of your navel. Keep the tape measure horizontal and comfortable — not pulled tight, as military garments are designed with room for tactical equipment and layering.
- Hip Measurement: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, approximately 20 centimetres below your waist. Keep the tape horizontal and at a consistent height.
- Height Measurement: Stand barefoot against a wall and measure from the top of your head to the floor. This is essential for NATO sizing, which uses height as the primary reference for top sizing.
- Inseam (Trousers Only): Wearing shoes with a typical heel height, measure along the inside of your leg from the crotch seam to the top of your shoe heel. This determines trouser length in military sizing systems.
- Sleeve Length (Jackets): With your arm bent at a 90-degree angle, measure from the centre back of your neck, across your shoulder, down your arm to your wrist. This ensures sleeves cover properly when wearing tactical gear.
- Glove Size: Measure around your hand at the widest point across your knuckles (excluding your thumb), with your hand relaxed and flat. Compare this to the glove size chart provided.
- Headwear Size: Measure around your head at the widest point above your ears, approximately 2.5 centimetres above your eyebrows. Ensure the tape is level and snug but not restrictive.
Note: When ordering military clothing, consider that NATO sizing is specifically designed with extra room for body armour, webbing, and additional layers. Do not size down if you prefer a closer fit; military garments are engineered for functional wear rather than tailored civilian fit.
