Fjällräven Size Guide
Fjällräven, founded in 1960 in Sweden, designs outdoor clothing and equipment rooted in nature and sustainable practices. The brand offers clothing in multiple fits — Regular, Comfort, and New Fit — to accommodate different body shapes and layering preferences. Fjällräven garments are engineered for freedom of movement in active outdoor conditions, with measurements taken from the body rather than the finished garment. Sizing runs true to chart, so precise measurement is essential for optimal fit.
How to Measure
- Wear only an undergarment or nothing at all.
- Stand upright with your arms hanging naturally at your sides.
- Breathe normally and position a soft tape measure horizontally under your armpits, across the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight — it should not compress the fabric of your skin.
- For waist measurement, measure around the narrowest part of your torso at natural waist level.
- For hip or seat measurement, measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
- For inseam (trousers), measure from the inside of your ankle bone up to your groin along the inside seam.
- For sleeve length (jackets), measure from the centre back neck, across your shoulder, down your arm to your wrist bone.
- Record all measurements in centimetres for accuracy.

Product-Specific Guidance
Jackets & Outerwear
Fjällräven jackets are available in Regular and Comfort fits. The Regular fit provides a classic, straighter cut with adequate room for layering whilst maintaining a streamlined silhouette. The Comfort fit offers a more generous, looser cut ideal for larger builds or those prioritising maximum freedom of movement. Measure your chest at the fullest point; if your measurement falls between sizes, choose the larger size for a relaxed fit or the smaller size for a fitted feel. All measurements refer to body size, not garment dimensions. Jackets are designed to accommodate mid-layer and base-layer clothing underneath.
Trousers & Shorts
When selecting Fjällräven trousers, consider both waist measurement and desired inseam length. Inseam lengths vary by model; check the specific product page for available options. Fjällräven offers Short (30"), Regular (32"), and Long (34") inseams, plus Raw (unfinished hem) lengths. If your inseam measurement falls between standard options, select the nearest longer length and have excess hemmed, as shortening is not always possible depending on hem construction. Measurements refer to your body, not to the finished garment.
Base Layers & Tops
Base layers and technical tops should fit snugly to function effectively as thermal layers. Size by chest measurement. If between sizes and layering over thermal underwear, opt for the larger size. Fjällräven base layers come in both fitted and comfort cuts.
Backpacks
Fjällräven backpacks are sized by height and intended use. Unisex models are offered in two sizes: S/M (under 170 cm) and M/L (over 170 cm). Some larger expedition packs offer multiple internal capacity options. Refer to the specific model for detailed carry capacity and fit information.
Headwear & Accessories
Hats, beanies, and caps are sized by head circumference. Measure around the widest part of your head just above your ears. If your measurement falls between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort and breathability, especially if wearing under a hood.
Sizing Tips
- Always measure your body, not the garment. Finished garment dimensions will be significantly larger than your own measurements to allow for layering, freedom of movement, and ease of wear.
- Account for layering. Fjällräven clothing is designed for active outdoor use with base and mid-layers underneath. If you plan to wear multiple layers, consider sizing up slightly or choosing the Comfort fit.
- Check the fit style on product pages. Regular, Comfort, Slim, and New Fit styles differ in ease and cut. New Fit tends to be roomier than the original Regular fit across chest, waist, and hip.
- For trousers, prioritise inseam length. Measure your inseam accurately (inside seam from ankle bone to groin). Waist size can be easily adjusted with a belt, but inseam cannot be lengthened and may be difficult to shorten.
- Women's New Fit is distinctly larger. If accustomed to the regular women's sizing, expect New Fit sizes to run noticeably roomy across the chest, waist, and hips.
- Fjällräven sizing runs true to measurements. The brand's charts are precise. If your measurements fall between two sizes, refer to the specific product description for fit guidance, or contact customer service to confirm the best choice for your build and intended use.
- Sleeve and inseam lengths are critical for comfort. Sleeves that are too short or long affect mobility and thermal protection. Measure carefully, and if between standard lengths, choose longer and have tailored if necessary.
- Children's sizes are height-based. Unlike many brands, Fjällräven children's garments are sized by height in centimetres, not traditional age. This ensures a more accurate fit across different body types.
