iCandy specialises in children's clothing and footwear designed for comfort, durability, and style. Our sizing is engineered to accommodate the natural growth patterns of infants, toddlers, and young children, with generous seam allowances and room for layering. iCandy products are cut to sit comfortably without restricting movement, making them ideal for active play and everyday wear. This guide helps parents and carers find the perfect fit across our range of children's apparel and shoes.
How to Measure
- Chest: Wrap a soft measuring tape around the fullest part of your child's chest, ensuring the tape passes under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape level and parallel to the ground. Record the measurement in inches or centimetres.
- Waist: Measure around the natural waistline, typically the narrowest part of the torso. Avoid pulling the tape too tightly; there should be room for one finger to slip underneath comfortably.
- Length/Height: Have your child stand barefoot with heels together and feet flat on the ground. Measure from the top of the head to the floor using a measuring stick or tape held vertically against a wall.
- Inside Leg: Measure from the top of the inside leg at the crotch down to the ankle bone or floor. This measurement is essential for trousers and leggings. For accuracy, measure with your child wearing normal indoor shoes or socks.
- Shoe Size: Place your child's foot on a flat surface and measure the length from the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Measure both feet, as children often have slightly different sizes. Perform this measurement in the afternoon when feet are slightly swollen from the day's activity.

Product-Specific Guidance
T-Shirts & Casual Tops
iCandy children's t-shirts and casual tops are designed with a relaxed fit to allow for comfortable movement and layering. We recommend choosing your child's true size for a standard fit. If your child prefers a looser silhouette or you plan to layer, consider sizing up one size. All tops are pre-shrunk; however, we advise gentle washing in cool water and tumble-drying on a low setting to maintain shape and colour vibrancy.
Trousers, Jeans & Leggings
Trousers and jeans should sit at the natural waistline without pinching or gapping. iCandy offers adjustable waistbands on many styles to accommodate growth and provide a secure fit. Measure your child's inside leg to ensure the length is correct; trousers should break gently at the ankle without excess bunching or dragging on the ground. Leggings are sized by age and height to ensure optimal fit and comfort during active play.
Dresses & Skirts
iCandy dresses and skirts are designed to allow free movement and room for layering with tights or leggings. Fit should be comfortable at the chest and waist without constriction. Length should reach approximately mid-knee for optimal proportions and age-appropriate styling. If between sizes, we recommend sizing up for added comfort and longevity as your child grows.
Footwear (Shoes, Trainers & Boots)
Children's feet grow rapidly, so accurate measurement is essential. Always measure both feet and size to the larger foot. iCandy shoes are designed with room in the toe box to allow for natural foot movement and growth, typically with approximately 0.5 cm of space between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. Choose the smallest size in which your child can comfortably wiggle all five toes. Avoid purchasing shoes that are too large, as this can cause blistering and walking difficulties. All iCandy footwear features supportive insoles and breathable uppers suitable for extended wear.
Outerwear (Jackets & Coats)
Outerwear should fit comfortably over layered clothing without restricting arm movement. iCandy jackets and coats are generously cut to accommodate long-sleeved tops and jumpers underneath. Sleeves should reach the wrist bone with arms extended, and hem length should sit at or just below the hip. Many iCandy outerwear pieces feature adjustable cuffs and hem hems to grow with your child.
Sizing Tips
- Measure regularly: Children's feet and body dimensions change rapidly. Measure your child every 2–3 months or before purchasing new footwear or seasonal clothing to ensure an accurate fit.
- Leave room for growth: Allow approximately 1.5 cm (0.5 inches) of space in the toe box of shoes and a similar allowance in the waist and length of trousers to accommodate growth spurts without immediate replacement.
- Check width as well as length: Shoe width affects comfort significantly. If your child's foot is particularly narrow or wide, consult iCandy's width-specific guidance or contact customer services for personalised recommendations.
- Measure in the afternoon: Children's feet swell slightly throughout the day due to activity and circulation. Measuring in the late afternoon or early evening provides a more accurate size for daily wear shoes.
- Try before you buy when possible: Sizes can vary slightly between production batches and styles. Whenever possible, have your child try on shoes in-store or use our returns service to ensure a comfortable fit before committing to purchase.
- Consider your child's activity level: Active children who spend much of the day running, jumping, and playing benefit from shoes with excellent arch support and cushioning. iCandy trainers and sports shoes are engineered for high-impact activities; dress shoes and casual styles are suitable for lighter wear.
- Watch for signs of discomfort: Even with correct sizing, some children's feet may have individual quirks. Red marks, complaints of pinching, or reluctance to wear shoes are signs that the fit may not be ideal. Do not assume the child will "grow into" an uncomfortable shoe.
- Use iCandy's size converter online: Our digital size tool instantly converts between UK, US, and EU systems, accounting for age, height, and foot length. This is particularly helpful when shopping internationally or comparing sizing across different retailers.
