Regatta Size Guide
Regatta is one of the UK’s leading outdoor clothing and footwear brands, established in 1981 and renowned for delivering high-performance, affordable gear for the whole family. From waterproof jackets and insulated coats to walking trousers, fleeces, and outdoor footwear, Regatta designs products that are built to withstand the British elements while keeping you comfortable. Their sizing tends to be generous and true-to-size, with many garments designed to accommodate layering underneath — a key consideration for outdoor apparel. Regatta caters to men, women, and children, offering an extensive size range that includes plus sizes and extended fits across many product lines.
How to Measure
To find the best fit in Regatta clothing and footwear, take accurate body measurements using a flexible tape measure. Wear lightweight clothing or undergarments for the most precise results, and ask someone to help you for greater accuracy.
- Height: Stand barefoot on a level floor against a wall. Mark the top of your head and measure from the floor to the mark. This is especially important for children’s sizing.
- Chest / Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest or bust, keeping the tape measure level and passing it under your arms. Keep the tape snug but not tight.
- Waist: Measure around your natural waistline at the height at which you would normally wear your trousers. Do not hold your breath — keep relaxed.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping the tape measure level.
- Inside Leg: Measure from the crotch seam to where your trouser leg would normally fall at the ankle. Regatta offers short (30″), regular (32″), and long (34″) leg lengths for men, and short (29″), regular (31″), and long (33″) leg lengths for women.
- Arm Length: Measure from the shoulder joint to the wrist bone, keeping the elbow slightly bent.
- Head Circumference: Place the tape around your head across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly but not tightly.
- Palm Circumference (for gloves): Using your dominant hand, measure around the widest part of your palm, excluding the thumb.
- Foot Length (for footwear): Stand on a piece of paper, mark the tip of your longest toe and the back of your heel, and measure the distance between the two marks in centimetres.
If your measurements fall between two sizes, Regatta recommend choosing the larger size — particularly for outerwear, where you may wish to layer garments underneath.

Tip for kids’ sizing: Regatta children’s clothes are designed with room for growth. The height measurement is often a more reliable guide than the age label — always check your child’s actual height against the chart.

Product-Specific Guidance
Regatta Coats & Jackets
Regatta waterproof jackets, insulated coats, and softshell jackets are designed with a comfortable outdoor fit that allows room for layering a fleece or mid-layer underneath. If you plan to wear only a t-shirt beneath your jacket, your usual size should be fine. If you intend to layer a thick fleece or body warmer, consider whether your chest measurement sits closer to the upper end of the size bracket. Regatta’s technical jackets — including their popular Isotex waterproof range — tend to be cut slightly more generously than fashion brands.
Regatta Fleeces & Mid Layers
Fleeces and mid-layer jackets are intended to be worn close to the body or under an outer shell. These garments typically fit true to size. Choose your standard size for a regular fit, or size down if you prefer a snugger, more athletic fit for active pursuits.
Regatta Walking Trousers & Shorts
Men’s trousers are sold by waist size in inches (26–50), with leg length options of Short (30″), Regular (32″), and Long (34″). Women’s trousers are sold by UK dress size (6–36), with leg lengths of Short (29″), Regular (31″), and Long (33″). Regatta walking trousers are designed for ease of movement, so they offer a slightly relaxed fit through the thigh and knee.
Regatta Salopettes & Ski Trousers
Salopettes and ski trousers are designed to accommodate thermal base layers underneath. If you are between sizes, size up to ensure comfortable movement on the slopes. Check both waist and inside leg measurements, as ski-specific garments may have slightly different proportions to standard walking trousers.
Regatta Footwear
Regatta walking boots and shoes use UK sizing as standard. Their footwear is generally true to size, but for walking boots intended for long hikes, many experienced walkers recommend going up a half size to allow for thicker walking socks and natural foot swelling. Always try boots on in the afternoon when your feet are at their largest, and wear the socks you intend to hike in.
Regatta Base Layers & Active Tights
Base layers and active tights are designed to fit snugly against the skin for optimal moisture-wicking performance. These garments use the same chest and waist size charts as outerwear but are cut with a close, athletic fit. If you prefer a looser feel, consider sizing up.
Sizing Tips
- Between sizes? Regatta consistently recommend choosing the larger size, especially for outerwear. Outdoor garments are designed with layering in mind, so a little extra room is rarely a problem.
- Check the specific product description: Some Regatta garments are labelled as “interactive” — meaning they can zip into a compatible outer jacket. Ensure you account for the combined bulk when choosing sizes for interactive fleeces and jackets.
- Kids’ sizing is by age, but measure height first: Children grow at different rates, so Regatta advise using your child’s actual height as the primary guide rather than relying on the age label alone. Their children’s garments are designed with room for growth.
- Waterproof jackets run generous: Regatta waterproof coats are cut to fit over mid-layers. If you only wear a t-shirt underneath and prefer a slim silhouette, you may find your usual size slightly roomy — this is by design for outdoor functionality.
- Walking boots — allow extra room: For long-distance walking boots, consider ordering a half size up from your standard shoe size to accommodate thicker socks and foot expansion during extended hikes. Ensure there is roughly a thumb’s width of space between your longest toe and the front of the boot.
- Leg length matters: Regatta offers short, regular, and long leg options on many trousers and salopettes. Getting the correct inside leg measurement prevents trousers from dragging on wet ground or riding too high above your boots.
- Extended size range: Regatta offers one of the most comprehensive size ranges in outdoor clothing, going up to 6XL for men and UK 36 for women. The same quality construction and technical features are maintained across all sizes.
- Gloves — measure your dominant hand: Always measure the palm circumference of your dominant hand (right hand if you are right-handed), as it is typically slightly larger. A well-fitting glove should feel snug but not restrictive.
